Great day out this morning for the annual State aquathlon championship. It was three laps of 250m swim and 1.7km run. Most of the run was on bitumen but this year one part was also on grass before another 400-500m on sand to get to transition and hop back in the water. Brilliant transition work for the legs! The conditions were very good, a nice sea breeze was cooling us down during the run which was welcome. The sea had some swirl and I got caught several times gulping down a wave just at the time I tried to breathe! But this meant I didn't need to drink anything during the run course as I felt well hydrated. This was my first local race and sprint distance for about a year. While it felt very different to push for a high pace, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and the race felt completed very quickly. I improved by a minute and a half from my time last year thanks to a better swim. Small down point, my Garmin watch turned off right before the race start so I had no idea how I was going. I went by the feeling and it turned out I had a very controlled race, the times for my three laps were very regular, bingo! Very happy of this little race. Thank you to everyone that cheered me along the way, it's been motivating and I hope it gave you some enjoyment too. Thanks also to my wife Nataliya Scoleri who ran around to get these pictures.
